Landbank holds 20th Gawad PITAK and 7th Gawad Entrepreneur

Negros Occidental (15 September) -- As part of the 47th anniversary celebration, the Land Bank of the Philippines recently gave tribute to the country's outstanding cooperatives, cooperative rural banks, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at Malacaņang Palace.

Now on its 20th year, the Gawad PITAK is a much-coveted award for LANDBANK assisted cooperatives in the country.

Under the Gawad PITAK Agri-based category, winners with respective prizes in the form of fixed assests are: First Place winner - San Joaquin Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), Ilocos Norte with P500,000; Second Place winner - Kabalikat Para sa Diyos at Bayan MPC in Odiongan, Romblon with P400,000; Third Place is Barbasa MPC in Antique with P300,000; Fourth Place is Bagumbayan PMPC in Bagumbayan Llanera in Nueva Ecija with P200,000 and Fifth Place is Catmon MPC in Sta. Maria Bulacan with P100,00.

In the Non-Agri based Category are winners from NIA Region IV Employees MPC in Pila, Laguna with P300,000 first place prize; Dingle Government Workers Development Cooperative in Dingle, Iloilo with P250,000 second place prize; Sta. Cruz Savings and Development Cooperative in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur with P200,000 third place prize; Escalante Public and Private School Teachers and Employees MPC in Negros Occidental with P150,000 fourth place prize; and Kapalong MPC in Davao del Norte with P100,000 fifth place prize.

The Masisit-Dacal Livelihood Cooperative from Sanchez Mira, Cagayan was awarded the Ginintuang Gawad PITAK award under the agri-based category. It received P1-million worth of fixed assets.

Meanwhile, the Guinintuang Gawad PITAK award under the cooperative rural bank category went to Cooperative Bank of Misamis Oriental from Cagayan de Oro City. A P500,000 worth of fixed assets was given to the awardee.

The Gawad Entrepreneur recognizes exemplary performance and significant achievements of LANDBANK assisted SMEs specifically in contributing to the economic growth and social development of local communities. It also seeks to provide SMEs with incentives to encourage them to improve their business.

For major awards category, Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded to Engr. Ramir Bonghanoy of Bon-Ace Fashion Tools in Minglanilla, Cebu; Outstanding Agri-based Entrepreneur to Sps. Myrna and Benjamin Casta Sr. of 3M Grains Dealer in Lupao, Nueva Ecija and Outstanding Non-Agribased Entrepreneur to Sps. Samuel and Janette Lam of JASA Builders, Inc. in Bolinao, Pangasinan.

Special Citation Category were awarded to SME Maka-Kalikasan to Sps. Aileen and Jonathan Suy of JOMARAY Pulp Packaging Industry in Davao City; SME Bagong Bayani to Sps Lorena and Mervin Albances of Isabela and SME Kayamanan ng Pamayanan to Dr. Ramon N. Floresta of RNF Summit Industries in Makilala in North Cotabato.

The Gawad PITAK and Gawad Entrepreneur awards have become a reliable measure of the performance of the Landbank-assisted cooperatives and SMEs.

"We are optimistic that these awards will give motivation to our partner co-ops, cooperative rural banks, and SMEs to enhance their operations and continue to support us in realizing our goals in countryside development," LANDBANK President and CEO Gilda Pico said.

The ceremonies for the annual Gawad sa Pinakatatanging Kooperatiba (Gawad PITAK) and the Gawad Entrepreneur were graced by Ms. Ma. Elena Aquino-Cruz representing President Benigno S. Aquino III leading the conferment of the award together with Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Cooperative Development Authority Chairperson Lecira Juarez, Philippine Partnership for Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas Vice-Chairperson for Luzon Rafael Gayaso, Polytechnic University of the Philippines President Dr. Dante Guevarra and representatives from the House of Committee on Cooperative Development, Department of Agriculture and Department of Agrarian Reform.
