55 persons sued for violation of dangerous drugs law

by Noli Nephi D Dimaandal

Davao City (16 September) -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) with the collaboration of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies, continues to fulfill its mandate as more drug traffickers and pushers fall in the hand of the law.

Since July this year, a total of 55 persons are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs law. Twenty-seven of them were apprehended for drug pushing; 19 for possession of illegal drugs, one cultivator and eight drug users.

About 55 anti-drug operations were conducted by the law enforcement agencies throughout the region. Out of which, 28 were buy bust operations, 14 were conducted by PDEA XI and 12 were operated by PNP. Two were a joint buy bust operations by the PDEA and the PNP.

From the operations, the following prohibited drugs were confiscated by the operatives: 39.8878 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride otherwise known as "shabu", 116.9177 grams of cocaine, 4299.08 grams of marijuana dried leaves, 6,410 grams of marijuana bricks, 1,018 fully grown marijuana plants, 1750.417 marijuana fruiting tops and three pieces of marijuana seedlings. The seized illegal drugs were valued at Php 1,826,455.

The collaborative effort of the law enforcement agencies and the community was the key in the successful apprehension of the suspects, which should serve as a warning to all drug perpetrators. The community is now more vigilant and resolute to win the war against illegal drugs by giving information to the law enforcement agencies.

We owe our success to the community for their continuous support and trust in the PDEA. The successful apprehensions of these drugs offenders are indicators that the community is actively participating in the anti-drug campaign. Most of the anti-drug operations are contributed, if no initiated, by residents of the local community. Let us do our share in the fight against illegal drugs and make our community a peaceful and progressive drug-free community. (PDEA XI) [top]
