North Cotabato's dengue cases near 4,000
Koronadal City (16 September) -- Dengue cases in North Cotabato from January to September have already reached 3,809 with 16 reported deaths from the mosquito-borne disease, records at the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) show.
The number of cases is 236.9% higher than the 1,608 reported cases during the same time last year. Only one died of dengue in 2009.
Dr. Hansel Amoguis, provincial epidemiologist, said that most of the cases were reported from Kidapawan City with 1,032 followed by Makilala, 503; Mlang, 315; Midsayap, 283; Tulunan, 196; and Kabacan, 196.
Most of those who died from the disease were children between 2 to 12 years old from the municipalities of Banisilan, Arakan, Libungan, Makilala, ang Pigcawayan, and Kidapawan City. (DE Doguiles/PIA 12) [top]
