DTI IX brings Zampen's best products to OMIF 2010

Zamboanga City (16 September) -- Promoting the best products Zamboanga Peninsula has to offer, the Department of Trade and Industry brought 35 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) from all over the region to showcase their respective products in the One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) Mindanao Island Fair 2010.

The 3-day Mindanao-wide trade fair kicked off yesterday, September 16, at the Atrium, Limketkai Center, in Cagayan de Oro City.

Enterprises indulging in food processing, furniture business, organic and natural products, jewelry and accessory production and manufacturing, joined the activity to widen the market of Zampen's product. DTI IX Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur heads region IX's contingent.

This year's theme is "Showcasing the Best of Mindanao", as it aims to feature products and services of One Town-One Product Program uniquely of the six regions in Mindanao.

This activity is in part, a preparation for Mindanao to join and showcase its best products in the national level where the target is the international market.

Region IX's best products include seaweeds, local delicacies, pearl jewelry, dried and fresh fish, canned sardines, bottled sardines, furniture and handicrafts using native or endemic organic materials, fruit juices, to include mango puree and calamansi, oyster sauce and others.

All in all, a total of 60 exhibitors from the six regions here in Mindanao joined the said activity.

As a side event, the Bureau of Domestic Trade will sponsor a "Semi-Processed Materials Expo" that will highlight the intensive raw material development and product manipulation of indigenous semi-processed and raw materials. A Buying Mission will also be organized to assist our SMEs look for market thru business matching.

The overall objectives of the activity are to enhance the marketability of Mindanao OTOP's and access and develop new markets, to generate sales and to conduct market-related interventions like product development, market testing, launching and business matching that will develop competitiveness of OTOP SMEs.

The trade fair also aims to introduce new products in the local market, to partner w/ the Bureau of Domestic Trade in the organization of "Semi-Processed Materials Expo", to expose OTOP MSMEs to marketing and trade events, and to promote Mindanao as a leading producer or supplier of quality products.

The OTOP Mindanao Island Trade Fair 2010 was graced by the Deputy Chief of the United States Embassy Leslie Bassett, who served as the keynote speaker. Other personalities present during the opening program were Hon. Vicente Emano, city mayor of Cagayan de Oro, Mr. Jaime Rafael U. Paguio, President of Oro Chamber, and DTI XII Regional Director Alicia V. Eusena. DTI IX Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur also represents BIMP-EAGA as Mindanao Point Person. (PIA9-ZC) [top]
