MIGEDC members undergo training on transport planning, traffic management
Iloilo City (23 September) -- The National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS) of UP-Diliman is currently conducting a training on Advanced Course on Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering and Management, September 20-24, 2010 in this city.
The five-day training is being participated in by the member-representatives of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) composed of Pavia, Sta. Barbara, Leganes, Oton, San Miguel, Iloilo City and the Province of Guimaras.
Representatives of the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and the Philippine National Police are also participating in this training.
The activity is a sequel training course to the Basic Seminar-Workshop on the same subject matter conducted in September 2008 that seeks to further capacitate the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the MIGEDC-JICA Project of the said local government units in the knowledge and skills for transportation planning so as to enable them to address the growing problem of motorization and environmental damage in their respective locality.
The JICA-MIGEDC project management said that an Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) system has to be installed as early as now to ensure a healthy, safe and livable world for all.
This training is the last in a series sponsored by JICA for MIGEDC as part of the project on Multi-stakeholder Transport Planning and Traffic Management Improvement in Metro Iloilo-Guimaras (MTMI-MIG). The project is set to end on October 2010. (MIGEDC/PIA) [top]
