The sale of IFR to the public is one of the highlights of the 38th year anniversary celebration of NFA with the theme: "Paglilingkod ng Tapat, Tungo sa Pagkaing Sapat".
According to Victorino A. Abrugar Senior Grains Operations Officer of NFA-Leyte who manned the cooking demonstration and taste test held on September 22, 2010 beside the Kanhuraw Business Center located at the Tacloban City Hall ground, the sale of IFR started on September 20 and will end on September 24, 2010.
"The week-long sale of IFR coincides with the week-long anniversary celebration of NFA", Abrugar said. He added that the selling price of IFR is only P23.50 per kilo within the period of the anniversary where it is pegged at P25 a kilo as regular price on regular selling day.
Ligaya Maderazo, another employee of NFE-Leyte who helped facilitate the activity, said that the a person can only buy in the maximum of five kilos per day so that others can also avail of the low priced yet good quality rice offered to the public by NFA.
She disclosed that NFA has dispatched rolling stores aside from the Bigasan ng Bayan that they have in several barangays in Tacloban City so that the sale of IFR will reach to communities where it is really needed.
According to a press release of NFA-Leyte, there are ten barangays in Tacloban City to include a public sale in Tacloban City Hall and in the provincial capitol that are included in the agency's week-long sale of IFR.
Maderazo said that the sale of IFR to the public is simultaneously done by NFA offices nationwide in line with the week-long anniversary celebration of NFA. (PIA 8) [top]
