Domogan dares Cruz to show proof on his allegations
Baguio City (23 September) -- Mayor Mauricio Domogan said he has no plans of suing retired Bishop Oscar Cruz for tagging him in jueting operations but he reiterated that Cruz should show evidence that people in his list of alleged jueting lords and protectors are indeed involved in the illegal numbers game.
"He is an old man", Domogan said of Cruz, who has named him along with other local and police officials as jueting operators during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing Tuesday.
Domogan has denied any involvement with jueting operations immediately after the Cruz expose was aired over national television. "I vehemently deny being a gambling lord or a protector of jueting or any illegal gambling for that matter. I am not a gambler and I will continue to go against it, " Domogan said.
"We welcome the conduct of the inquiry on the jueting issue but we do not adgere to the fact that the inquiry is just being used by some quarters to ruin the reputation of people who have tried their very best to protect their names only to be tainted by unveriefied reports and mere hearsays", Domogan added.
"If Bishop Cruz holds sufficient evidence relative to the involvement of local and police officials to the jueting payola issue, he must file the necessary charges against them before the proper forum and not to use the same to advance the personal and political interests of some quarters", Domogan said in a written statement and during the press conference he called soon after the expose.
The mayor maintains that he is relentless in his effort to curb the proliferation of all forms of illegal gambling to restore the character and morality of the people. He said under Administrative Order No. 126 series of 2010 which he signed in August, Task Force JUPITER or'Just and Unified Peoples Initiative Towards Eradicating Rampant Illegal Gambling" was created to come up with appropriate measures strategies to stop illegal gambling in the city.
Meanwhile, retired police general Eugene Martin also denied Cruz's allegation of being a jueting operator. Both Martin and Domogan are in Cruz list as jueting operators in the Cordillera Region. (PIA) [top]
