Catbalogan, Samar (24 September) -- PhilHealth Sabado is coming very soon to give benefits to hundreds of indigent families in Samar.
Come October 2, 2010, a Saturday one thousand families in Samar; 500 in Catbalogan and another 500 in Calbayog City will become the first PhilHealth enrollees under the leadership of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
Other municipalities will follow suit as the national government envisions a universal coverage of the health insurance, according to Department of Health (DOH) Representative-Dr Antonio Tirazona in a visit to PIA-Samar.
Tirazona stressed that the incumbent president wants PhilHealth to become a byword in Filipino families.
He added that the nationwide initial registration in October 2, 2010 will jumpstart the awareness of the public particularly the informal sector or self-employed to be enrolled in PhilHealth as individually paying members, that the government is trying to reach.
The government is targetting some 4.1 M Filipinos who are "true indigents" and would need some Php 9B annually to provide the much needed health care.
In his inaugural address, P-Noy declared : Serbisyong Pangkalusugan tulad ng PhilHealth, para sa lahat, a loob ng tatlong taon.
Presently, the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) are enjoying health insurance coverage either through their local government units or the national government.
The nationwide PhilHealth Registration Day is jointly being undertaken by the DOH, PhilHealth, DSWD, DILG, DepEd, League of citis, muniicpalities and provincs and the civil society or non government organizations.
Preparations are on the go until next Saturday when the DOH/PhilHealth will issue its battle cry : PhilHealth Sabado, magseguro, magparehistro! (PIA-Samar) [top]
