204 Nueva Vizcaya studes get checks under SPES

by Ben Moses Ebreo

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (September 24) -- At least 204 student-beneficiaries of the government's Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) recently received their payments from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for rendering work during the summer season.

The figure is only an initial batch of recipients out of close to 800 students in the province who availed of the program offered by the DOLE.

The figure represents the 57 SPES recipients who worked at the local government government unit of Solano and the 147 sutdents who were absorbed by the provincial government.

The awarding of checks was headed by DOLE regional director Grace Ursua and provincial and municipal officials of host LGUs.

"The figure only represents the initial batch of SPES beneficiaries who received their payments for services rendered during the summer of this year. Other checks for the remaining beneficiaries are now in the process," Ursua said.

During their work, SPES beneficiaries are paid by the government services rendered for a certain period of time. Sixty percent of their salary shall be paid by their employers such as local government units, academe and private business establishments while the remaining forty percent will be provided by the government through the DOLE.

SPES, otherwise known as Republic Act No. 7323 or An Act To Help Poor But Deserving Students Pursue Their Education By Encouraging Their Employment During Summer and/or Christmas Vacations.

Since the start of the SPES in the province, thousands of indigent students have been benefited according to DOLE district head for Nueva Vizcaya, Pacifico Moralit. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
