DENR-9 to spearhead coastal cleanup
Pagadian City (24 September) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX will lead the coastal clean up in some coastal barangays in the city namely; Dumagoc, Kawit and San Pedro tomorrow, Saturday (September 25), as part of the lined up of activities in the observance of National Clean Up Month this month of September with the following themes: "TRASH TRAVELS: From our hands to the sea, around the globe, and thru times, and "Basurang Pinabayaan, Problemang Hanggang Ibang Bayan'.
In the regular media forum hosted by PIA at New Roxan Hotel on Tuesday, Neneth T. Ordoņo, chief of the Coastal and Marine Management Section- DENR-9 said, the coastal clean up will be held at the coastline and waterways of the above-mentioned barangays.
Ordoņo said, the activity will be participated in by over 200 students NROTC students of Zamboanga del Sur Maritime Institute of Technology (ZSMIT), members of the Philippine Army, barangay council members volunteers, and local residents.
The clean up will start from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
"We need to educate the people and create a solution to diminish solid waste problem to conserve our aquatic resources. And this could be done through coastal cleanup," Ordoņo said.
Marine debris which kill and injure marine wildlife will be collected during the said clean up activity. (PIA9/Zds/GCC) [top]
