DENR intensifies IEC activities on environmental preservation
Pagadian City (24 September) -- To generate wider awareness on the importance of the preservation and protection of the environment, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX intensified their information, education and communication activities to the local government units (LGUs), academe, people's organization, and other stakeholders.
Coastal and Marine Management Sector chief Neneth T. Ordoņo during the regular media forum hosted by PIA at New Roxan hotel said, in the observance of the National Clean Up Month, this September, officials from DENR are intensifying IEC activities, saying that the public should know how to carefully maintain and protect the environment and to reduce the effects of global warming.
"We have visited academe, LGUs, POs and other stakeholders to inform them on the salient features of the laws that the government are adopting to protect our natural resources and ecosystem," Ordono added.
"Recentlly, we conducted IEC activities to college and high school students in the city and in the province, aimed to educate them on the significance of environmental preservation and conservation." Ordono further stressed.
In particular, she also mentioned some important laws that were included in their campaign such as Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as "An Act providing for an ecological solid waste management program" and E.O. 533 signed by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo which adopts an Integrated Coastal Management to boost country's participation in the Sustainable Development Strategy.
