Hardwork, attitude spell public official award - Civil Service

Tacloban City (24 September) -- Atty. Marilyn Taldo, Civil Service 8 Assistant Regional Director sighted hard work, attitude, knowledge and love as the most important ingredients in public service.
This she mentioned in her message as guest of honor and speaker during the awarding ceremony of two Eastern Samarenos who made it to the regional and national level screening made by Civil Service Commission.
The ceremony which was one of the highlights of the 110th Civil Service Founding Anniversary, recognized Dr. Merla D. Duran, Associate Professor I of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Guiuan campus for her accomplishments in spearheading the curriculum development of the University. She likewise took the lead role in the successful accreditation of the four academic curriculum of the same institution.
"Dr. Duran made it to the regional screening which definitely is worth recognition because the screening is stiff and tight," Mr. Romy Berenguel said in a brief phone call. Mrs. Duran received the Pag-asa Award from the Commission.
Mr. Virgilio Arias who served a lengthy janitorial service before he became an Administrative Aide III of ESSU-Main Campus was also accorded with an Outstanding Award for paving the launching of the program, "Zero-Garbage and Litter ESSU" (main campus). The report added that Arias successfully maintained the cleanliness of the ESSU campus. Most importantly, through his own creativity and innovativeness, the janitor turned Administrative Aide installed five electronic fingerprint (biometric) unit during the last quarter of 2009.
Similarly, the provincial government accorded the two exceptional government employees with plaques of appreciation. Vice Governor Sheen Gonzales who joined the ceremony for Governor Conrado Nicart, Jr. said that he wished all state workers draw this kind of inspiration, which the two awardees manifested.
In her response, Dr. Duran challenged one and all to work hard and love their work despite the meager salaries.
Meanwhile, Arias is slated to receive from President Noynoy Aquino, a gold guilded medallion, a plaque of appreciation from Sec. Franciso Duque and a cash award of P50,000.00 this coming October at Malacanang Palace.
From 1992 to 2010, it was learned that Region 8 have already received 12 individual awards and one team award, six for Dangal ng Bayan Award, five Lingkod Bayan Awards and two Pag-asa award. In 1997, former Governor Lutgardo Barbo received the Lingkod Bayan Award which was just accorded to Mr. Virgilio Arias. (PIA-Eastern Samar) [top]
