Kalinga solo parent federation organized

Tabuk, Kalinga (25 September) -- The Provincial Solo Parent Federation is now organized and is expected to be working in full force to promote the welfare of solo parents and their children in the province.

The new federation officers and municipal officers agreed to assemble all solo parents in their respective municipalities to explain their rights and benefits provided for under Republic Act 8972 or the Solo Parents' Welfare Act of 2000.

Simultaneous with the activity is the master listing of all solo parents in preparation for the issuance of their Solo Parent's identification cards and the formulation of their municipal action plan.

Every barangay in the province is also expected to come up with a Barangay Solo Parent group to ensure a province wide involvement.

Within the year, the federation schemed to come up with its Constitution and By-Laws and planned to register the federation at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to avail of the government services intended for said sector.

It was also suggested to record September 15 of every year as the Provincial Solo Parents Day in the province.

Elected as the first officers of the federation are Wilma Daus of Rizal as President; Leonora Mundiguing of Tabuk, vice president; Aida Bermillo of Tabuk, secretary; Virginia Amangao, treasurer; Teresa Cario, auditor; and Rowena Acquioben of Pinukpuk as the Press Relations Officer.
