Grand Jobs Fair set on Sept. 29-30 at Baguio Convention

by Lito Dar

Baguio City (25 September) -- A two-day Grand Jobs Fair will be conducted on September 29 and 30 at the Baguio Convention Center in line with Baguio City's celebration of its 101st anniversary this September.

This is made possible by the city government through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with different various line agencies headed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-CAR).

On September 29 will be for local employment while September 30 is for overseas employment.

Seventeen local and 10 overseas employment companies have already confirmed their participation for the said Jobs Fair. Local companies include SITEL, Texas Instrument, Digitel, Sanyo, Nople Trends, Greenwich, Sunshine, Sutherlands, NCO, Sagittarius Mines Inc., PLDT, Kintetsu, Summit Bank, Prime Hotel, ISONN Marketing, SC Laranang General Construction, and Pines International Academy.

Aside from job vacancies to be offered, the said Grand Jobs Fair will also feature a Career Forum and Pre-employment Seminar. For the local applicants, DOLE-CAR invited three resource persons, one each from SITEL, MOOG Industries and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for a two-session (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) forum and orientation. The Civil Service Commission(CSC) will also participate in the orientation.

On the second day, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will conduct a Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) while the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will do information dissemination on anti-illegal recruitment.

Various government line agencies like DOLE, CSC, OWWA, POEA, Department of Public Works and Highways and the Social Security System will also provide Workers Service Clinic during the two-day jobs fair. TESDA-CAR will also facilitate a Wellness Clinic which will offer free massage, haircut and manicure.

For additional employment assistance, job seekers could also check DOLE's JobsFit program. This is the latest labor market study of the DOLE that highlights the in-demand and hard-to-fill occupations of the key industries that are projected to be the main source of employment growth in the country for the next ten years. The study is a product of extensive environmental scanning and consultation with key stakeholders nationwide. (PIA) [top]
