Comelec sets Oct. 1-13 sked for filing of COCs

by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (29 September) -- Persons running for the Oct. 25, 2010 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections must file their certificates of candidacy (COC) from Oct. 1-13.

Lawyer Renato A. Magbutay, Regional Elections Director (RED), region 10, said the COC's will be received by the Commission on Elections through the Office of the Election Officer (EO) of the concerned city/ municipality.

Acceptance of the COC's will be done during the regular working hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm., inclusive of the said dates, but will be extended until 12:00 midnight, on the last day of filing on Oct. 13.

Magbutay, however, clarified that the COC must be filed in person or through their duly authorized representatives and that those filed by mail, telegram or facsimile will not be accepted.

Meanwhile, appointive barangay, city/municipal, provincial, regional or national officials or employees, or those in the civil or military service, including those in government-owned and controlled corporations, will be considered resigned from office upon filing of the COC.

Thus, these candidates must vacate their posts at the start of the day of filing of their COC for a barangay or SK office, Magbutay said.

The same provision applies to incumbent city/municipal, provincial and national elective officials running for any barangay elective post.

In cities/municipalities where there are two or more Election Officers, the COC may be filed at the office of the EO having jurisdiction over the barangay where he/she is a candidate, Magbutay added. (PIA 10) [top]
