OWWA cites Model OFW Family of Eastern Visayas
Tacloban City (September 29) -- Two Overseas Filipino Worker families will be awarded as Model Family of the Year in Eastern Visayas during the award rites which will be held on October 1, 2010, at 9:00 o'clock in the morning at the Ritz Tower de Leyte.
Director Juliet Z. Tan, officer in charge of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Region 8, informed that the two major awards are the Model Family of the Year land-based, and the Model Family of the Year sea-based.
The names of the awardees will be announced by Department of Labor and Employment Region 8 Director Forter Puguon during the awards rites, Director Tan said.
The awards rite is in connection with the 2010Search for the Model OFW Family Award, the selection and screening of which was conducted on September 23 at the Ocho Seafood and Grill Restaurant.
The two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) families will be cited in recognition of their outstanding achievements as overseas Filipino worker (OFW) families, Director Tan said.
The two family-awardees who will represent the Eastern Visayas Region in the National Search, will be awarded by the Search's main sponsors, Banco de Oro who will be represented by an executive from Manila, and Globe.
The award is in line with President Benigno Aquino III's thrust to strengthen the welfare and protection of what has been acclaimed as the country's "modern-day heroes".
The awards' main objective is to recognize the outstanding achievements of OFWs and their families in the process of serving as role models and inspiration to the entire OFW community here and around the world, Director Tan added. (PIA 8) [top]
