iSchools latest information management system assists in monitoring school laboratories

Quezon City (20 October) -- A project that puts up net-enabled computer labs in Philippine high schools will soon teach beneficiaries to use a web-based application that will measure usage of their computer equipment.
This was announced by the iSchools Project, subsumed under the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, after it held its Midstream Planning Workshop conducted in Olongapo City last month.
As part of its ICT4BE (Information and Communications Technology for Basic Education), the project announced that it would be conducting a series of Project Monitoring and Evaluation Information System (PMEIS) User?s Training this October.
The PMEIS is a web-based application whose main purpose is to maintain a database of relevant information for all 1,000 recipient schools of the iSchools Project.
"We aim to train all SUC (State University and College) OSTEs (Open Source Technology Experts) so that they will be able to train their counterparts at the public school level for data encoding and maintenance purposes," iSchools Project Manager Toni Torres said.
"We are adopting a different strategy to ensure data encoding for our schools -- that is to decentralize these requirements to the Project?s SUC partners," Torres stressed.
The first training is scheduled on October 20-22 for the Luzon group and will be hosted by Bicol University in Legaspi City.
The second training will be held on October 28-30, 2010 for the Visayas-Mindanao group and will be hosted by Visayas State University in Baybay City, Leyte.
Since the PMEIS has reached its maturity level, the project hopes that the system will play a part, through automation, in monitoring the performance and usability of computers and servers deployed in various iSchools laboratories nationwide. (CICT) [top]
