UGSAD prepares for 18-day campaign to end VAWC
Iloilo (2 November) -- The Ugsad Regional Gender and Development Resource Center is firming up plans for the 18-day Campaign to end Violence against Women and Children (VAWC), from November 25-December 12.
Ugsad Coordinator Dr. Rosario Asong said during a general assembly that the observance of the 18-day campaign seeks to highlight the actions that should be undertaken to end violence against women and children which seems not to be contained even by advocacies and legislations.
She said this campaign will also heighten the need for every citizen to be vigilant and start personal and collective initiatives to fight violence starting right where they are.
PO3 Sheila Sangrines of the PRO-6 Women's and Children's Desk said that they still find it difficult to contain abuse against women and children because of inadequate resources, as well as the cooperation of victims themselves.
She presented two cases of women who had intense convictions in ending violence being committed against them, but the constraints are in the legal proceedings which can be slow and the lack ofresources to sustain the fight in court.
For the 18-day campaign, Dr. Asong said the major activities will include a PNP Band concert, proceeds of which will fund improvements in the Women's Desks facilities, film showings and forum on the Peace Process. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
