DTI conducts skills training on bamboo tiles and planks making in Ramon Magsaysay
Pagadian City (3 November) -- In its desire to upgrade the skills of different associations in Zamboanga del Sur, the provincial office of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) led a 5-day skills training on bamboo tiles and planks making on November 3-8, 2010 at the Bamboo craft production in Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur.
Sr. Trade and Industry Development Specialist Reynaldo C. Pintacasi said the training is a flagship project of DTI which aims to upgrade the skills of the associations in the country in order to help boost the country's economy.
Upon the invitation of DTI, Pintacasi said 2 expert trainers from Cottage Industry Technology Center (CITC) will train members of Ramon Magsaysay Bamboo Furniture Makers Association (RAMAGBAFMA) on how to make bamboo tiles and planks.
CITC is an attached bureau of DTI that aims to encourage and promote the establishment of cottage and small-scale industries working to generate employment and livelihood opportunities.
RAMAGBAFMA has 30 members composed mostly of men, and is managed by its President Anerson Ondo.
Pintacasi said RAMAGBAFMA is a beneficiary of Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE's) livelihood assistance project--Promotion of Rural Employment Through Employment and Entrepreneurship Development (PRESEED) and was granted the amount of P300,000 in 2008 for the purchase of equipment and tools for bamboos.
RAMAGBAFMA has purchased equipments and tools for the bamboo tiles and planks-making for them to realize their projects to help uplift the living condition of each member, Pintacasi added. (PIA9-ZamboSur/GCC) [top]
