Calamba City (9 November) -- The City of Santa Rosa is among the recipients of this year's Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on November 4, 2010 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The award is given by the National Nutrition Council to Green Banner Awardees that has maintained good performance in managing their local nutrition plans within three (3) years. The City is a Green Banner awardee for three (3) consecutive years since 2007.

City Nutrition Action Officer Carmencita Catindig said the city government's nutrition program is testament to Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno's dedication in lessening health related concerns in the City. "Through the city's innovative programs for nutrition, and proactive Barangay Nutrition Scholars, the City of Santa Rosa was able to maintain its Green Banner award for three (3) consecutive years since 2007," Catindig added.

The city's nutrition program is geared towards achieving zero malnourished children through various activities that are focused on the proper nutrition of children. Twelve (12) Supplementary Feeding Programs are held every month, which aims to uplift the health status of children in the city. The Operation Timbang (OPT), aims to lessen the number of malnourished children in the city by the end of the year. OPT is held every first quarter of the year and in 2010 and had a total of nine hundred sixty (960) malnourished children, between the ages 0-71 months, have been fed through the Food Assistance program.

Besides its usual feeding programs, the City Nutrition Office (CNO) maintains stable partnerships with Non Government Organizations (NGOs) joining them in their supplementary feeding programs.

The CNO also partners with non-government organizations. Among the partneship's output is a livelihood, training program that includes; dishwashing soap making, perfume making, beads assembly, meat processing, paper folding (bag making), culinary/baking, candy making, hair science, and reflexology. This training aims to give the BNS and homemakers alternative means of income for their families.
