World class sports park opens in General Trias

by Ruel B. Francisco

Gen. Trias, Cavite (9 November) -- Mayor Luis "Jon-Jon" Ferrer IV led recently the inauguration and formal opening of the new sports facility that houses the world class oval and, Sports and Science Instructional Building in Barangay Santiago, this town.

The Sports Park bespeaks of Intel's commitment in helping communities: A gift born out of Intel volunteers' hard work, time and spirit.

A dream realized through the collaboration and harmonious partnership of Intel Technology Philippines, the Local Government of General Trias, and the Department of Education (Deped) dedicated to further promote sports and educational development among students and residents of the town.

Originally owned by Adalberto Sison, the four-hectare agricultural land was purchased by the local public school district in 2008 using the fund granted by the Intel Foundation through the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program.

The new sport facility is the only sports park in the country that has an Olympic standard eight-lane oval with two warm-up lane. The surface of the track is an approved IAAF Class A-15-17 mm full polyurethane rubber using the M99 ? Rekortan Technology supplied and constructed by Sports Technology Incorporated of Australia.

The sports park was jointly constructed and developed by seasoned contractors J.H. Domiguez Construction, Ahnex Builders and Marcbilt Construction under the supervision and technical expertise of volunteer engineers led by Jemie Cubillo, an engineer from the Office of the Municipal Planning and Development Council.

Other local officials that graced the event include all the department heads of the municipality, DepEd district supervisors and principals, representatives from the construction companies and Arlita Narag, Public Affairs Manager representing Intel Technology Philippines. (PIA-Cavite) [top]
