NSCB cites LGUs support to stats centers project
Iloilo City (9 November) -- The National Statistical Coordination Board lauded the support given by local government units in Western Visayas in the setting up of National Statistical Information Centers in their respective areas.
NSCB Central Office Director III Candido Astrologo, Jr, said that "daku gid ang amon pasalamat sa mga governors nga sila ang nagbulig, naggasto sa pagset-up sang NSICs sa ila lugar."
With the launching of Aklan NSIC this December, Astrologo said, it is only Western Visayas that will have complete provincial NSICs among the regions in the country.
For the record, Guimaras was the first province in the country to set up its NSIC located at the Guimaras Provincial Capitol and manned by its Provincial Planning and Development Office staff.
NSIC is a frontline public service of the NSCB that provides statistical products and services. Among its services are library, bookshoppe, and statistics inquiry.
"Our staff in the center are also ready to provide technical assistance such as data analysis, interpretation, management, among others. We have also e-mail and fax services for those who need them", said Astrologo.
Astrologo noted that in areas where there are NSICs people are very appreciative because they don't have to go anymore to each government agency to do research and get the data they need, thus saving them money, time and effort.
Astrologo, who is an Ilonggo, was in Iloilo City to grace the closing and awarding ceremonies of the National Statistics Month celebration in the region recently. (PIA/LAFrench) [top]
