DOST IV-A metrology lab holds calibration exercises
Los Banos, Laguna (9 November) -- The Regional Metrology Laboratory (RML), a service unit of DOST CALABARZON IV-A, recently held training courses on mass and volume calibration for some 50 municipal inspectors, treasurers and licensing officers of the Local Government Unit of Quezon at Bulwagang Kalilayan Hall, Lucena City, Quezon.
Relative to this, Engr. Samuel L. Caperina, provincial S &T director of DOST-Laguna and laboratory head of RML, together with his technical and training staff Fjorda Kim R. Rubian and Antonio A. Estacio led the group in discussing legal metrology and verification, inspection and sealing of weighing scales and fuel dispensers following the Philippine National Standards 238 and Consumer Act and DOE Circular No. 2003-11-010, respectively.
Participants of the training raised several issues and concerns regarding the proper sealing of weighing scales, frequency of calibration and authorized person to calibrate to name a few.
RML was established in 2003 by DOST IV-A in partnership with the Laguna State Polytechnic University-Los Banos (LSPU) where it was housed until the new laboratory was constructed mid this year. It provides calibration services for length, mass, electrical quatities, temperature, pressure and small volume and uses modern calibration equipment and methods that conform to national and international standards. RML aims to provide international traceability of measurements and contribute to the production of goods that satisfy health, safety, environment and the fair trade standards of the international amrket.
