PHILVOCS expects more explosions from Bulusan
Manila (9 November) -- With the recent volcanic activities of Mount Bulusan, the Philippine Volcanology & Seismology (PHILVOCS) is expecting more explosions.
According to PHILVOCS, a total of eight volcanic earthquakes were recorded in the past 24 hours with the summit of the volcano obscured by thick clouds most of the time. When visible, weak to moderate emission of white steam was also observed.
Thus, Alert Level #1 is reiterated, which strongly advises the public not to venture inside the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). The people residing near the valleys and streams proximate to the danger zone are also warned to be vigilant of sediment-laden stream flows in the event of heavy and continuous rainfall.
Advisory was also issued to residents located northwest and southwest of the volcano to take precautionary measures against ash-fall due to prevailing wind.
The Civil Aviation authorities were also advised to notify pilots to avoid flying close to the summit of Bulusan as ash ejection and volcanic fragments from sudden explosion may pose hazard to their aircraft. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
