Tarlac's BHW cited most outstanding in region

San Fernando City, Pampanga (10 November) -- The Department of Health Region III (DOH R-III) recently awarded the Tarlac Provincial Barangay Health Workers Federation as the most outstanding BHW in the region.

The BHW were recognized in a simple ceremony at the Bulwagan ng mga Gobernador with no less than DOH RD Rio Magpantay gave the plaque of recognition.

Tarlac's BHW achievements in health volunteer work were validated by the regional search committee of the DOH. Showing good records and achievements in good health services, the province became number one. Exceptional achievers in health service, an award that aims to give recognition for their outstanding performance in health development.

DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay recognized the barangay health workers in the province as the government's moderate hand in its fight against health problem.

Speaking before them, the DOH RD revealed that he acknowledged the important role of the BHW in the implementation of the government's programs and projects of the department. "Much has yet to be done in the fight against diseases and that government cannot do it all alone but needs the help of the volunteer workers like you" Magpantay added.

Each health workers was awarded health kit and umbrella as token for their sacrifices. Blood pressure apparatus were also given to the municipalities and city. The RD also promises the province 1 million worth of medicines for sustainable and continuing health projects.

Gov. Victor Yap, in his speech, told the BHWs that they have been the "honor and pride" of Tarlac. "You have been continually pushing the bars up and striving for excellence. You have shown that Tarlaquenos are great people in service and that Tarlaquenos are great people," he said.

Congresswoman Susan Yap, for her part said the award would encourage them more to perform their task well. "It will encourage them to work more as health worker. I hope they could maintain and prevent diseases in their respective locality and help the government".

It takes a special kind of dedication to one's calling as a health worker to give up the promise of personal comfort in the spirit of true service.
