10,000 classrooms per year mulled by DepEd, DPWH

Davao City (10 November) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Education held its first Regional Coordination meeting under PNOY's administration. Participants from Regions XI and XII of DPWH and DepED were welcomed by DPWH-XI regional director Sinaolan Macarambon, Assistant regional director Reynaldo Tamayo and key officials.
DPWH-XI Construction Division chief Zenaida Tan presented Region XI's status of School Building Programs (SBP) with a total accomplishment of 97.21% for CY 2009 and 64.19 for the CY 2010. DPWH-XII Construction Division chief Diampuan Rangiris also tackled infrastructure projects and accomplishments for the CY 2009 and 2010.
DPWH undersecretary and chairman for School Buildings Roy Manao says, "the new administration pushes for a speedy completion of 60,000 backlog of SBP's before 2011."
DepEd Central Office official Oliver Purisima stressed to build good quality infrastructures and school buildings for children. A P2-B budget will be allocated for 2-3,000 school buildings per year.
DepED XI regional director Susana Estigoy also stressed that upon completion, school buildings should be conducive for the students and are not prone to floods and landslides, as DepED and DPWH aims to deliver, construct and build 10,000 school buildings annually. (DPWH XI) [top]
