Senate to probe FPIC pipeline leak
Manila (10 November) -- The Senate is set to conduct an investigation into the First Philippine Industrial Corporation (FPIC)'s pipeline oil leak in Makati City on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.
According to Committee on Environment and Natural Resources chair Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, the Senate inquiry aims to determine who was really at fault and who should be held responsible under the law.
"There was a report given to me that they tried to downplay the incidents of a leak, that it was not theirs," Zubiri said referring to the FPIC.
He added that it even took several months before the FPIC took action on the leak.
"I think the company should have owned up responsibility several months ago. What's important is that at the end of the day, they own up to their responsibility, apologize to the public, and pay up for the damages and clean up," he said. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
