Aparri launches inter-high school, agency basketball tournaments

Tuguegarao City (10 November) -- In line with the municipality's intent to promote the health and well-being of its constituents, the municipal government of Aparri headed by Mayor Ismael V. Tumaru recently launched the annual Inter-High School and Inter-Agency Basketball Tournaments.

Alma Diaros, Municipal Information Officer, said the activity which will serve as an avenue for friendly competition will be participated by four (4) secondary schools and fourteen (14) agencies based in Aparri.

The St. Paul School of Aparri, Aparri East National High School, Northern Philippine Polytechnic College - High School Department and Aparri School of Arts and Trades will vie for the championship trophy for the inter-school competition.

The DepEd. Aparri East District; DepEd Aparri West District; Judiciary; Aparri Police Station; PNP Maritime; PNP 1st Maneuver Platoon; BFP-Coastguard-BJMP; CAGELCO II; Motortrade; Philippine Rural Banking Corporation; Charles W. Selby Memorial Hospital, Inc. (Formerly Aparri Christian Hospital); Petron Corporation Aparri Depot, SPSA Employees (Blue Eagles) and the LGU Aparri Team will also compete for the inter-agency tournament.

In his message during the opening program held at Aparri Public Gymnasium, Mayor Tumaru reminded the team players as well as the team officials the value of sportsmanship and fair play.

He urged the teams to play the games in the highest form and standard of discipline and sportsmanship no matter if they win or lose. "What counts more is how you conducted and played the games and declare to preserve the tenets and precepts of a true sportsman in thoughts, in words and in deeds," Tumaru told the players.

The best muse in the two categories were likewise chosen wherein the muse of the Aparri East National High School Team in the person of Clarisse Anne N. Gunio emerged as the winner in the inter-school category. For the Inter-Agency Category, the best muse was Cherry Anne M. Quirolgico of the Aparri Police Station Team.

The inter-high school Cheer Dance Competition was also held wherein the St. Paul School of Aparri was adjudged as champion; Aparri East National High School, 1st Runner-Up and Aparri School of Arts and Trades, 2nd Runner-Up. (PIA 2) [top]
