CSC 2 disseminates RA 9710 special leave benefits for women

by Thelma C. Bicarme

Tuguegarao City (10 November) -- The Civil Service Commission Regional Office 2 recently announced that female employees in the public and private sector who will undergo surgery due to gynecological disorders are now entitled to special leave of two (2) months with full pay based on their gross monthly compensation.

According to Rewina Arugay, Chief of the Public Assistance Center, CSC 2, based on Section 21 of the Implementing Rules and regulations of Republic Act 9710 or the "Magna Carta of Women," any female employee regardless of age and civil status shall be entitled to the special leave benefit aside from the regular two (2) months maternity leave.

Arugay explained that a female employee must have rendered at least six (6) months continuous aggregate employment service for at least twelve (12) months prior to surgery.

The CSC official explained further that if an extended leave is necessary, the female employee may use her earned leave credits and the special leave is non-cumulative and non-convertible to cash. (PIA 2) [top]
