Tourism awareness, capability building seminar held in Cagayan

by Thelma C. Bicarme

Tuguegarao City (10 November) -- The Department of Tourism Region 2, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Cagayan recently conducted a three-day Tourism Awareness and Capability Building Seminar (TACBS) for the Local Government Units at the Crown Pavilion here.

DOT 2 Director Blessida Diwa said the seminar was attended by the tourism officers and legislators from the 15 municipalities of the province.

Diwa stressed that the said seminar is being conducted by DOT all over the region to promote tourism awareness among LGUs, tourism officers, planning officers and frontliners and to equip them with knowledge and skills in tourism planning, standards and regulation.

"We have started implementing this program in July 2009 in the regional level with participants from the regional line agencies, province and municipalities. This year, we implemented the program in the Province of Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya and the coastal towns of Divilacan, Maconacon and Palanan in Isabela," Diwa said.

Other Capability Building Seminar for LGUs are Statistics Generation, Tourism Promotion and Marketing which we hope to implement next year.

A pool of resource speakers from the DOT Central Office and tourism industry practitioners were tapped to share their knowledge and expertise on the different topics taken up during the seminar.

The DOT director has expressed optimism that through the tourism awareness and capability building seminar, the different LGUs will be empowered to formulate their own tourism development plans. (PIA 2) [top]
