109 farmers from Agusan del Norte get land titles, says DAR

Manila (Nov. 10) -- Farmers in Agusan del Norte are happy to have finally sealed their ownership to their own farmland with the distribution of the certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) in the far-flung municipalities of Kitcharo and Jabonga, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said on Wednesday.

Some 40 farmer-beneficiaries from the villages of Bangyan and San Isidro in Ktcharo and 69 farmer-beneficiaries in Beltran and Maraiging, in Jabonga received CLOAs.

DAR Regional Director Faisar Mambuay said the distribution covered a total area of 73.9060 hectares in the municipality of Kitcharo, and 85.0077 hectares of agricultural lands in Jabonga.

"Some 109 farmer-beneficiaries shed tears of joy upon receiving their land titles. They had long been waiting for this issuance and now they have proof of their ownership to their lands," Mambuay added.

Since the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) started in 1988, DAR-Caraga was able to issue CLOAs to 15,257 agrarian reform beneficiaries with a total accomplishment of 27,405.9585 hectares or 74 percent versus the working scope of 37,396.6674 has of agricultural lands in the different parts of the province to increase their compliance to the extended CARP.

The beneficiaries of the titled agricultural lands are located in Butuan City, Cabadbaran City, Buenavista, Carmen, Las Nieves, Kitcharo, Magallanes, Nasipit, RT Romualdez, Santiago, Jabonga and Tubay.

This year, the DAR-Caraga Region is targeting to distribute 9,832 hectares of agricultural lands to farmer-beneficiaries in different parts of the province as mandated in the provisions of the extended CARP.

Mambuay said processing and documentation for CLOAs for farmers is still going on at various areas in Northeastern Mindanao. (DCT/JCA/PIA-Caraga) [top]
