Residents call for oil pipeline replacement
Makati City (10 November) -- West Tower homeowners affected by the oil leak have asked the Supreme Court (SC) to compel pipeline owner First Philippine Industrial Corp. (FPIC) to replace the damaged cylinder in order to ensure their safety.
According to Atty. Lorna Kapunan, lawyer for the homeowners, they are set to file a "Writ of Kalikasan" before the SC within the week.
She said due to the unchecked spillage of oil from the pipeline, the extent of the contamination could only be presumed to be extensive and could affect the residents living within the 117 kilometer line.
She added that the oil leak could also affect and endanger future generations.
On Oct. 28, the government shut down the 43-year-old Pandacan-Batangas pipeline so the leak could be found and repaired. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
