EU parliamentarians visit Secretary Romulo
Manila (10 November) -- Members of the European Parliament (EP) recently paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The delegation was led by EP Delegation for Relations with Countries in Southeast Asia/ASEAN Chair Dr. Werner Langen.
He was joined by European Union (EU) Ambassador to the Philippines Alistair MacDonald and EP members Wolf Klinz and Marc Tarabella. Secretary Romulo received the delegation and highlighted the strong partnership of the Philippines and the EU.
"The EU is an important partner of the Philippines not just bilaterally but also in the context of ASEAN," Secretary Romulo said.
He noted ongoing projects of the EU in Mindanao and on human rights and expressed hope for the early signature of the Philippines-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
The EP passes EU laws jointly with the European Council, supervises the European Commission, and exercises authority over the EU budget.
In 2007, an EP delegation also came to the Philippines and visited the EU's development projects in the country. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
