PIA Press Release
2010/11/10

NFA Laguna assures sustained rice supply

San Pablo City (10 November) -- National Food Authority (NFA) Provincial Manager Ramoncito H. Padilla assured that NFA-Laguna has sufficient rice inventory of 318,586 bags of imported rice stored in seven warehouses in San Pablo City, Calauan and Alaminos.

The supply is enough to address the rice consumption requirement of the province for 19 days as he also assured that the inventory of household commercial stocks are likewise adequate.

Relative to this, the agency announced that it has accredited several retail outlets namely the Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palengke (IBSP), Bigasan sa Barangay Outlet (BBO), Bigasan sa Parokya Outlet (BPO), Inside the Market Outlets (ITM) and the Outside the Market Outlets (OTM) which have sufficient supply of NFA rice sold at P25.00/kg.

The NFA-Laguna has also come up with distribution strategies aside from the facilitation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for rice loan to the 31 provincial/city/municipal government units. Under the program, LGUs can purchase rice on credit from the NFA whenever a state of calamity is declared and may even stockpile in preparation for any eventualities and/or emergencies.

Padilla emphasized that his agency will continuously monitor and exercise vigilance in ensuring that the supply of rice in the province is visibly sustained. (NFA-Laguna/PIA-Laguna) [top]
