Calamba prepares activities for Rizal's 150th birthday in 2011

Calamba City (11 November) -- It's more than a year before the 150th birth anniversary of the country's national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, but the members of the Cultural Affairs, Tourism and Development Office (CSTDO) in cooperation with the Knights of Rizal have drawn plan for a year-long celebration of the significant occasion.
Sports Development Officer Ruel Torres revealed, in a meeting recently, the four sports activities slated in line with the celebration next year: (1) Tour de Calamba, a cycling competition, March 12, 2011; (2) Calambanka, a rowing competition, March 19, 2011; (3) Sarangolahan, a kite flying competition, April 12, 2011; and (4) Takbo Para sa Bantayog ni Pepe, 3K, 5K, and 7K marathon, April 19, 2011.
The registration for the dry run competition on December 30, 2010 will start on December 1.
Torres said the sports competition aims to form different sports team in cycling, marathon, and other sports composed of Calamba City residents that will represent the city in provincial, regional, and national competitions.
Meanwhile, the Knights of Rizal will organize a fund-raising activity to finance the erection of a statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the new Calamba City Hall compound. (PIA Calabarzon) [top]
