HongKong company to conduct FS over Zambo City solar energy

Zamboanga City (11 November) -- A Hong Kong based company will undertake feasibility study (FS) to determine the viability of developing and operating solar energy projects here in the city.

The conduct of FS was made possible thru a Memorandum of Agreement inked Monday by and between the city government of Zamboanga represented by Mayor Celso Lobregat and the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (Zamboecozone) represented by its chairman Ms. Georgina Yu and the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) represented by Mr. Rolando Gregorio and Hongkong based Enfinity Asia Pacific Limited represented by its chief executive officer and co-founder Gino Van Neer.

The formal forging of agreement was held in Makati with Energy Secretary Rene Almendras, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo and other officials in attendance.

Enfinity Asia Pacific Limited, a corporation specializing in financing and developing renewable energy projects worldwide will start its FS after the date of the MOA signing until 60 days after the feed-in tariff (FIT) is effective, said City Information Officer Sheila Covarrubias in her press release.

"The feasibility study will determine the viability of developing a solar energy facility projects of 20MW or more with a minimum size of 10MW at the Zamboecozone in San Ramon" said Ms. Covarrubias in her news release.

An initial investment of 25M Euro or approximately over a billion pesos is needed for the realization of the project,-an amount estimated for the equivalent generating capacity of 10MW, Covarrubias stated.

The City spokesperson stressed of Mayor Lobregat's optimism that the proposed establishment of a solar power plant here will significantly augment the power supply with respect to the steady rise of power demand in the city. (JPA/PIA) [top]
