Newly-elected barangay chairman shot dead in Ilocos Sur

Camp President Quirino, Ilocos Sur (November 11) -- A newly elected barangay chairman was shot and killed by unidentified motor - riding in tandem suspects in a broad daylight shooting incident happened between a school and a church in Barangay San Ramon, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur Thursday morning.

Senior Inspector Arsenio Ramos, Magsingal town chief of police, identified the victim as Ben Mark Bueno, 34, a newly elected Barangay Chairman in Barangay Resureccion, San Juan, Ilocos Sur.

Bueno was the second newly elected barangay chairman killed in Ilocos Sur and the third gunslaying incident perpetrated by the motor- riding in tandem suspects this month of November. The first newly was Benito Tolentino of Barangay Napo, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur. Tolentino was shot and killed by motor - riding in tandem suspects last November 5, 2010 along the national highway in Barangay Bacunero, Santo Domingo town.

Investigation disclosed that the shooting incident happened at about 6:30AM Thursday. The victim had just brought his child to the Saint William Institute near the Saint William Church when the unidentified motor- riding in tandem suspects approached and shot him at close range several times.

After the shooting incident, the suspects fled immediately at the crime scene leaving the victim, who sustained serious bullet wounds in the different parts of his body.

Upon learning of the incident, the lawmen responded immediately to the crime scene.

"Some of my men rushed the victim to the nearest hospital in the town while the others are presently conducting hot pursuit operations against the fleeing suspects," Ramos said. "Unfortunately, the victim was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician in the hospital," he added.

He said that his men had recovered 7 empty shells for Caliber.45 pistol at the crime scene.

For his part, Ilocos Sur police director Senior Superintendent Eduardo Dopale had immediately forme a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to focus on the conduct on the probe on the killing of Bueno. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
