DTI to conduct seminar on foreign trade agreements in Zamboanga

Zamboanga City (12 November) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in cooperation with the Bureau of Customs the Tariff Commission, the Export Development Council, Philexport, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry will conduct a seminar on the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) on November 19, 2010 at the Garden Orchid Hotel in Zamboanga City.

Dubbed as "Doing Business in Free Trade Areas", the seminar is part of the nationwide information campaign of the DTI to increase awareness as well as foster appreciation of the benefits of the FTAs.

DTI-9 Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur disclosed that while the Philippines is already implementing a number of FTAs, it has been observed that many local businessmen have not been able to take full advantage of them. This seminar is therefore, designed to help address this gap.

The seminar according to Manzur will cover discussions on market opportunities, particularly on products with zero or reduced tariffs under existing free trade agreements as well as the procedures for their availment.

There will also be a sharing session for businessmen who have successfully utilized the free trade agreements to their advantage.

"We thus, encourage our businessmen here in Region 9 to attend this seminar so they too can avail the same opportunities and benefits as a result of these FTAs", Manzur said.

"There will be no registration fee but accommodation will be on a first come, first served basis", Manzur added.

Interested participants are advised to confirm early by contacting Ms. Lou Miguel of the Business Development Division, DTI- Regional Office IX, Zamboanga City at telephone numbers (062) 991-3237, 991-3238; CP 09215497849 or through this email address: malud_429@yahoo.com.

They may also contact the DTI provincial offices in Dipolog, Pagadian, Ipil, and Isabela City in Basilan for confirmation or inquiries. (lsv/dti9/pia9) [top]
