Drug demand reduction campaign to continue - PDEA

by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (12 November) -- The Drug Demand Reduction Campaign of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will continue considering the present drug situation of region 10.

Thus stressed Lt. Col. Edwin F. Leyese (Ret.), Regional Director of PDEA-10, who said that 412 out of the region's 2,022 barangays are drug-affected and that 2,319 drug pushers have been identified in the region.

Of the drug-affected barangays, 66 have been declared slightly affected, 329, moderately affected and 17, seriously affected, Rubietania A. Gacus, Intelligence Officer and Chief of the PECID, PDEA-10, said.

A barangay is considered slightly affected if it has the most number of users and that pushers peddling dangerous drugs may be around in that area but they are only transients or that they are from other Barangays and only go to the area to sell drugs.

The moderately affected barangays are those where the ratio is 1 user for every 1 pusher or 1:1 or that users and pushers of dangerous drugs are mostly residents of that barangay.

The seriously affected barangays are those where there are users, pushers and manufacturers of dangerous drugs, meaning, that barangay is "busdakanan or bangag" or transhipment of the prohibited drugs.

Meanwhile, the most number of drug affected barangays are located in Bukdinon with 114, of which 12 are slightly affected, 99, moderately affected and three (3), seriously affected.

The other provinces has the following number of slightly-affected, moderate affected and seriously affected barangays:

Misamis Occidental with 91 barangays, of which 33 were slightly affected, 54 moderately affected and four (4), seriously affected and Misamis Oriental with 69 moderately affected barangays.

Lanao del Norte with 64 barangays of which 19 were slightly and 45 moderately affected and Camiguin with one (1) slightly and 18 moderately affected barangays.

Cagayan de Oro City with one (1) slightly, 26, moderately and one (1) seriously affected barangays and Iligan City with 18 moderately and one (1) seriously affected barangay. (PIA 10) [top]
