November 15-19 is drug abuse prevention and control week

Cagayan de Oro City (12 November) -- An intensified information, education and communication (IEC) package on drug abuse prevention and control (DAPC) has been launched by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in region 10.
This, as PDEA will celebrate the DAPC Week from Nov. 15-19, 2010, along the theme "Think Health, Not Drugs," said Lt. Col. Edwin F. Leyese (Ret), Regional Director of PDEA-10.
He said among the IEC activities will be the conduct of symposium on the ill-effects of the dangerous drugs and the salient features of Republic Act No. 9165, as well, as documentary film-showing of "Taghoy sa Dilim" to college students from various schools of the city.
Leyese said a motorcade will kick off the DAPC Week on Nov. 15 following the route from the Provincial Capitol Grounds to the Freedom Kiosk at Divisoria Park in Cagayan de Oro City, after which an opening program will take place.
It will be participated in by the different peace and order councils of the region, members of the League of Mayors, government and non-government agencies and students and teachers of the Dept. of Education, among others.
Meanwhile, Rubietania A. Gacus, Intelligence Officer and Chief of the Preventive Education and Community Involvement Division (PECID), PDEA-10, said the DAPC Week will culminate with a fun walk at 4:00 p.m. of Nov. 19 to be participated in by selected elementary students from the Cagayan de Oro City Central School.
A culmination program will then follow, during the Night Cafe at Divisoria, this city, where City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, together with the PDEA Regional Director. are expected to give their inspirational messages. (PIA 10) [top]
