BSP re-launches economic and financial learning center at GenSan

General Santos City (18 November) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) branch here re-launched last week its Economic and Financial Learning Center (EFLC).

Atty. Sonia delos Reyes, deputy director of BSP-GSC, said that the re-launching expands the scope and services provided by the EFLC, which is now upgraded and connected to the network thereby linking the local center to the electronic resources available in the EFLC in Manila.

"Although EFLC in Gensan has been in operation since 2007, the center is re-launched as an improved facility capable of delivering economic and financial learning through technology-based interactive modules, informative video clips, and even educational computer games in addition to the conventional media like books and periodicals," she said.

"Researchers are free to browse the digitized library collection and the economic statistical database to gain information on economic issues that are of interest of them," she said.

With the re-launching of the EFLC in Gensan, BSP also formally opened the last leg of the Economic and Financial Learning Program (EFLP) here.

"EFLP is a consolidated outreach educational activities of BSP consisting of a series of learning sessions and activities geared to promote greater awareness and understanding of essential economic and financial issues to help the public acquire knowledge and skills needed to develop a well-informed economic and financial decisions and choices," she explained.

Components of the EFLP include public information campaign regarding the role of BSP in the recent economic developments with emphasis on price stability, financial stability, and efficient payments and settlement systems; financial learning seminar for microfinance clients who wish to avail of services; and, financial learning campaign for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their beneficiaries to educate them on the importance of using remittances to build up savings and directing these into investments and business ventures.
