Antique, DSWD to ink MOA for P1.8-M housing project for typhoon victims

San Jose, Antique (18 November) -- The 23rd of November would be a red letter day for the 60 families of the town of Belison, as it would see the finalization of the Memorandum of Agreement which would build their new home, a timely gift for the coming season, and the ground breaking ceremony of the same.

The said agreement will be entered into by the Province of Antique and Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6, together with the Municipality of Belison.

The structures would cost P70,000.00 per unit, and will be funded by the DSWD while the relocation site in Mojon, Belison which is worth P1.8 million will be shouldered by the Antique Provincial Government. On the other hand, the municipality of Belison agreed to facilitate and manage the release of the financial assistance which will be directly given to the beneficiaries and to provide basic services such as water, electricity and sanitation to help families.

Last November 15, Mr. Julian Ledesma of the DSWD Region 6 met VGovernor Rosie Dimamay, who was OIC of the province at the time, and Belison Mayor Darell B. dela Flor to plan and prepare for the provisions and conditions of the Core Shelter Project. This undertaking was conceptualized after the havoc wrought by typhoon Frank on June 20-12, 2008 which left hundreds of people dead and thousands homeless. Belison was one of the municipalities in Antique which was severely damaged.

"This could be a great help to my constituents, and they had been waiting for this project to be materialized."" Dela flor said.

Meanwhile, Antique's Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, headed by Mr. Lazaro Petinglay, was designated to visit a similar pilot project in Anini-y to observe its actual implementation. (PIO-Antique) [top]
