PNP conducts workshop on personal security for media practitioners
Tacloban City (November 19) -- The Police Regional Office 8 is set to conduct a half-day workshop on Personal Security Measures for Media Practitioners on November 23, 2010 at 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon at PRO 8 Conference Room, Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte.
Police Superintendent Elizar Patano Egloso, acting chief, Police Community Relations Division, said that this is part of the PNP's continuing efforts in providing protection to journalists who face threats due to the nature of their profession.
Col. Egloso said that the PNP deemed it fit to provide the local media practitioners with the basic knowledge and practical skills in securing themselves and their family.
He added that the media practitioners must be taught the skills in determining possible threats and improving communications among all concerned including local PNP units.
The training module will involve lectures on threat detection and assessment, as well as counter-surveillance and evasive techniques designed as target-hardening excercizes, among others to make journalists less vulnerable to threats of violence.
PSupt. Egloso said that he has invited the local media to attend the said activity which is being conducted with the go signal of the PNP 8 Regional Director Arnold Revilla.
The participants may come in any casual attire as they may deem proper, Col. Egloso said. (PIA 8) [top]
