Bontoc Week for Peace set Dec. 4-10

Bontoc, Mt. Province (20 November) -- It is all set for the for the first Bontoc, Mountain Province Week for Peace (BMPWP) celebration to be held on December 4 - 10.
In a multi-sectoral meeting held at the Red Cross building on Thursday, various activities were finalized for the week-long peace celebration.
Fun biking shall fire off the activities on December 4 before the kick off opening ceremony to be held at the Provincial Plaza.
A simultaneous municipal wide clean up drive shall follow in different barangays and a tree-planting along the Sagada-Dantay and Bontoc - Mount Polis national road.
Also opening on Dec. 4 is a sports fest to be participated in by government and non-governmental groups in the capital-town and launching of a photo opts gallery. A medical- Dental mission will also be conducted at barangay Balili which will cater to the residents here and nearbly Gonogon and Alab.
On December 5, a Sunday, activities shall be a reading of Pastoral Letters delving on peace in the different churches. A medical-dental mission will also be conducted at barangay Talubin to service its residents and neighbors Bayyo and Caneo. There will also be a Gospel Concert at the Park to be held at the Mt. Province Building quadrangle.
Indigenous and modern cultural-dance competition to be participated in by elementary, high school and college students will highlight the third day's activities. A medical-dental mission will held at barangay Guina-ang to benefit the other upland barangays of Maligcong, Mainit and Dalican.
The fourth day will be devoted to information, education campaign (IEC) on forest protection to be conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and a poster design competition among school students to be facilitated by the Department of Education.
Scheduled on the fifth day is a Symposium on Building a Culture of Peace with officials from various sectors invited as resource persons. There will also be an IEC on indigenous peoples concerns by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples personnel. This day also marks the launching of the 22nd year Mountain Province Craft Exposition at the provincial plaza.
On the December 9 will be a dialogue among local chief executives and tribal leaders and their subsequent signing of peace covenant. Blood letting will also be conducted on this day at the Mt. Province State Polytechnic College Auditorium.
The last day's activities will be a peace parade around the town to be participated by government workers, NGOs and other peace supporters. Parade participants will also be signing a peace covenant. A fireworks display is being worked out to finally end the week-long peace celebration.
Initiated by the Philippine Army based in the province in collaboration with the Bontoc local government unit and the various sectors in the capital-town, the BMPWP hopes to enhance Bontoc to be peaceful, secure and progressive municipality.
The BMPWP is in line with the celebration of National Human Rights Consciousness Week every December 4 - 10 and the International Human Rights Day on December 10. (PIA Mt. Province) [top]
