BARPF, NCCB honor outstanding Baguio media practitioners

Baguio City (20 November) -- Ten outstanding media practitioners from the print, radio and television will receive the Blessed Association of Retired Persons Foundation (BARPF) Kafagway Journalism Award for leadership and services to be held at the Baguio Convention Center on November 27. Professor Federico Balanag, president of the foundation and Monroe Taclawan, chairman on the committee on awards said that the awardees are being cited for their sustained leadership, professionalism and meritorious performances as purveyors of information in our quest for a better society.

BARPF and the National Correspondents Club of Baguio (NCCB) Nars Ppadilla initiated the annual event three years ago.

The roll of honor is led by lawyer Delmar Cariņo, correspondent of Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) and Chairman of Benguet Press Corps; Delfrado "Jun" Villanueva, anchor of DZWX Bombo Radyo Baguio and president of Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC).

The other awardees are Eddie Carta, station manager of DZWX Bombo Radyo; Alfred Dizon, publisher and editor of Northern Philippine Times; Adam Borja, associate editor of Baguio Chronicle; Frank Cimatu, correspondent of PDI; Salvador "Butch" Mendizabal, reporter of ABS CBN TV Patrol Northern Luzon; Aileen Refuerzo, associate editor of Baguio Reporter; Maria Elena Catajan, reporter of Sunstar Baguio and Gabriel "Gabby" Keith, columnist of Baguio Midland Courier.

A thanksgiving mass for the awardees together with Congressman Manny Pacquiao who won his eight world boxing crown in eight different divisions will be offered at the Shrine of the Brown Madonna in Packac, Tuba Benguet.

A Pacman Tree for life will be unveiled at the Shrine compound to immortalize the international boxing achievement of the Filipino ring icon. (PIA) [top]
