Zambo Airport transfer costs P9 B - DOTC study
by Michael Vincent D. Cajulao
Zamboanga City (26 November) -- The transfer of the Zamboanga City International Airport will cost the government P9 B. This is the result of the feasibility study conducted by the Department of Transportation and Communications forwarded to airport manager Celso Bayabos.
Bayabos said the site for the proposed transfer is in barangay Talabaan, some 18 kilometers away from the present airport, covering 170 hectares with 2,500 meter runway. He said the site is perfect for transfer due to its flat landscape and still few residents.
To address the P9 B budget requirement, Mr. Bayabos said they will be selling the present airport for P8 B to immediately facilitate the transfer. He said they will also have to address some kinks with the owners of 174 lots that will be affected by the transfer. He said DOTC is now preparing the money to pay the land owners.
Bayabos said that if the transfer is immediately facilitated, the new airport will be fully-operational by 2016 basing on the feasibility study by DOTC. (PIA9-ZC) [top]
