PIA chief to grace Western Visayas info officers yearend confab

Iloilo City (30 November) -- Philippine Information Agency Director General Jose A. Fabia will be the guest of honor during the Information Officers' year-end conference and awarding of Best Information Officers for 2010, December 1, at the Iloilo Westown Hotel.

Atty. Fabia is addressing the Information Officers for the first time under the administration of President Aquino, whose thrust is on government transparency, accountability and the strengthening of information networks in the country.

Atty. Fabia had served as President and CEO of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation from 1995-1998, Asst. Secretary Department of Health in 1987-1991, and had been Mayor of Binmaley, Pangasinan from 1992-1995.

Atty. Fabia has over 26 years of combined experience in management, governance issues, law, business, international trade, trade financing, recruitment, migration and health care.

PIA6 Director Janet Mesa said the yearly event, initiated by the PIA is a gathering of information officers from Western Visayas to assess their performance, share and exchange concerns on how to contribute to the attainment of government's information thrusts.

Mesa said this year's highlights will include the awarding of 12 Best Performing Information Officers for 2010 coming from the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental.

The conference with also tackle resolutions for possible federation of Information Officers network in Western Visayas to be more effective in synchronized information dissemination of government programs.

More than 100 Information Officers are expected to attend the conference. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
