Christmas Ed Kapangan set December 10-11

by Joseph B Zambrano

Kapangan, Benguet (30 November) -- Come experience the beauty of nature and rich culture and tradition in the 'Christmas Ed Kapangan' scheduled on December 10 to 11.

The activity is ideal for families who are taking advantage of the holiday season where relatives and friends bond together. It includes cultural presentations and trip to the various tourist destinations where one can stay overnight camping.

Kapangan Mayor Robert Canuto said that the first leg will be a guided tour to the more than two hectares of 56 different varieties of anthurium in a forest under natural shade of trees. Anthurium is the one town one product (OTOP) of the municipality.

Hike to Bulalakao mountain to view the majestic beauty of the municipality and for photo opportunity. Visitors and locals alike will see a Cañao and 'iwik' and partake in a'wat-wat' dinner, and warm themselves in bonfire and be delighted with cultural presentation and a grand march at night time.

Visitors can also enjoy an overnight camping at the Balacbac Elementary School grounds mini park overlooking the Dakiwagan mountain where the imaqinary image of Santa Claus can be seen.

The second day will start with a "hataw" to warm up campers for a second day of exiting activities.

There is a trek to the Obellen rice terraces to witness and participate in the pounding of rice for "chu-om". Or go spelunking to Bulalakao cave to encounter one of the so many beautiful caves of Kapangan.

Highlighting the event are a "kamayan" lunch and swimming with the Kapangan muscle men led by international body builder Cesar Lokines and fishing in the indigenous way using" bani-it" and "gobo" at the Amburayan River and as the highlight of the two day activities. (PIA) [top]
