Tuguegarao City (30 November) -- The Philippine National Police Regional Command 2 struggles to combat the political and street killings in the whole province of Cagayan.
Regional Director PCSupt. Francsico J. Villaroman said "Task Force Cagayan" was established to resolve the series of crimes happened in the past which were unresolved, and to prevent any criminality which may be committed in the future.
The task force, Villaroman said, is composed of members of the police who came from different regions and a pool of experts who could not be politically motivated.
"We have more than 20 unresolved killings, including high profile cases, which remain unresolved up to this time. We are determined to resolve these cases," Villaroman said.
Last November 24, the PNP headquarters had issued a memorandum to all PNP units banning the carrying of firearms outside their residence including law enforcers, policemen, military officers, guards except when they are performing their duties. It is also applicable to those who will enter the province.
The police had also established several checkpoints to the vital entry and exit points in every municipality to enforce the policy. They have also banned the application of permit to carry firearms.
"We are not contented with the checkpoint system and police visibility policy only, we are determined now to go after the perpetrator of these unresolved cases. I want to resolve all of these within my administration as the regional commander of PNP region 2", Villaroman stated in a media conference.
Other than this, Villaroman also stated that more than a hundred of police officers undergo retraining through the refresher course to test their ability to perform their duties and responsibilities without any reservation and not motivated by any politicians.
Villaroman also said that he is working for the proposal to place portions of Kalinga and Apayao under control of PNP Region 2 which may lead to the solution of the problems on criminalities in Cagayan and Isabela. (PIA 2) [top]
