Library hubs to serve elementary and secondary schools in Butuan

Butuan City (30 November) -- Spearheaded by Honorable Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr., the ground breaking ceremony last November 22, 2010 for a Library Hub in Ampayon Central Elementary School (ACES) here in Butuan City was a success.

Mayor Amante believes that the putting up and construction of the Library Hub in Butuan City is a key factor in improving the performance of elementary and secondary schools, especially in the National Achievement Test (NAT), where CARAGA emerges first place for 2009, and substantiate the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil- IRI) requirement being two of the many priorities under DepEd thrusts and goals identified in the MDGs- EFA 2015.

Library Hubs, also known as the "warehouse and wholesale" libraries, houses books and other reading materials, can be accessed for free by public elementary and high school students for them to develop and hone their skills and love for reading.

These hubs also provide supplementary reading materials, story and children's books which could also be used as teaching aids, sorted by subject area or theme for ready use.

Mayor Amante stressed that education is his primary program as he believes that knowledge and education defines the quality of citizenry, and this ground breaking ceremony is indicative of his commitment to better the education system, in partnership with the Department of Education together with the support of the Honorable Councilor Erwin L. Dano, Committee Chair on Education.

The school, students, teachers and Barangay officials convey their deep gratitude for the full force of our City official and leaders in facilitating to make this project into a reality, responding to the reading needs of the students to better school performances in their academic endeavor.

Libertad Central Elementary School in the West District is also a beneficiary of a new Library Hub funded from the Congressional Fund of Cong. Jose S. Aquino II of the First District. (Agnes B. Tumulak, Butuan City-PIO/PIA-Caraga) [top]
